Each year Travel & Leisure magazine selects the best resorts around the world and Costa Rica stands out for leading the category in Central and South America.

Five hotels in Costa Rica were selected as the best in Central and South America by Travel & Leisure magazine.
Each year, this publication highlights the best destinations thanks to a survey conducted among its readers, who select hotels and destinations, among other services, as highlighted on its website represent the best of travel.
This is the 17th edition and added categories such as 'the best options in terms of price'. They also gave a special recognition to those who have been on the list for over a decade.
The Costa Rican hotels are common in the ranking this year, for example within the category of the "ten best resorts" of Central and South America, Costa Rica took most of the top spots.
First place went to Nayara Hotel, Spa & Gardens, a complex that began operating in December, 2007 in La Fortuna de San Carlos.
"Despite being a very nice hotel, we focus on the service. We have many amenities for guests, as well as variety of activities typical nights, barbecues, menus pairing food with a glass of wine," said Jorge Gutierrez, resident manager of the hotel.
The 50-room resort has four restaurants and in the past received several awards, including being among the five most romantic hotels by TripAdvisor.
Fourth place went to the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, which was also recognized in the Hall of Fame for being on the list for a decade. Sixth place went to Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Playa Herradura, eighth place to Kioro Arenal, La Fortuna, and tenth place went to the Westin Golf Resort & Spa in Playa Conchal.
These next two hotels made their debut on the list.
Westin Playa Conchal highlights the extent of the property with attractive landscapes near the coast. A Robert Trent Jones II golf course featuring 18 holes, tropical gardens, pools, tennis courts, spa and white sand beach near the hotel.
Also mentioned were recreational activities ranging from photography classes to tango lessons, as well as cocktail, coffee and wine tastings.
